Agreement with Fujimi City to prevent hardship and keep it from becoming more severe

Author: Institute of Poverty Prevention

Event date:

Established in 2023 with the mission of creating a society enriched by mutual support, the Institute of Poverty Prevention signed an agreement with Fujimi City in Saitama Prefecture on 17 September 2024 to prevent hardship and keep it from becoming more severe.

The agreement aims to advance poverty prevention through collaboration between the Institute and Fujimi City. It seeks to help residents avoid hardship and maintain economically and socially stable lives in their community. Its foundations include education about preventing hardship and the early identification of people in need through digital technology and other approaches.

At the signing ceremony at City Hall, Mayor Mitsuhiro Hoshino explained that Fujimi City had established dedicated departments to address issues such as children experiencing hardship, but that action across departments was needed. He expressed hope that the Bokyu approach would help prevent hardship and reach people who were reluctant to seek help at a government office because they felt embarrassed.

The Institute plans to put its research into practice by developing and providing an app that makes the city’s assistance programs easy to access, and by offering Bokyu training to a wide range of generations, including children.

At the time of the agreement, the Institute described this as Japan’s first collaboration with a municipality specifically on Bokyu. Drawing on the experience in Fujimi City, we will consider partnerships with other municipalities that express interest.
